Project Details (unfunded):
Dear Mr. Scott,
I am writing to ask for your help with a woodworking project for our Girl Scout Troop. We are Girl Scout Troop 300 so we decided to do something to commemorate San Antonio’s Tricentennial. We will be overseeing the construction and installation of 300 Little Free Libraries. They will be located throughout the city with a special emphasis on the city core.
Would your students be able to build any libraries for our project? There are free blueprints for basic libraries on the Little Free Library web site: https://littlefreelibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/LFL-Building-Design_6.17.13.pdf. We would also welcome custom designed libraries as long as they fit these parameters; must be weather proof, must have a plexiglass window in the door so visitors can see the books, must be able to mount on a 4” x 4” post. Smaller libraries tend to be neater and easier to maintain than large libraries.
Each library will have a plaque with charter number and will be registered with the Little Free Library web site. We will also have another plaque signifying this is a Tricentennial project by Girl Scout Troop 300. This plaque will have space to list the name of the student or school who built that library. We will also be having a competition for best design and best craftsmanship of the libraries. Details of that event are being planned but we are aiming towards an April 2018 date. We would like to have all of our libraries built by June 2018 so there is plenty of time to install all of them by the end of 2018.
I would be happy to answer any questions you have about the project. You can reach me by email at [email protected] or by phone (210) 852-3586. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Emily Jellick

Students next year would be surveyed for interest and asked to team up on projects. They would be asked to design for the character of the neighborhood destination. For Instance, King William area box would have a victorian style added to it. We would try to incorporate details from recycled materials to avoid inflating the costs. Our estimate for what you sent is around $50 for the basic model (materials only). We would ask for an additional $10 to $20 in reimbursables to design it better than the current plan. I estimate we could produce 5 to 10 within my classes. I do not have a woodshop of my own, so I would be working with out woodshop teacher to use the equipment when it is not in high demand. Please feel free to contact me again at the beginning of the school year to see if my students are interested.
Hope this helps.
